It will also introduce origin and development of libraries, function of libraries and types of library workers and their responsibilities. This course also introduces the types of library users, their information needs and the types of library materials and their specific characteristics. Descriptive Cataloguing I: Monograph The purpose of this course is to equip student with the knowledge and skills required to create bibliographic records of all library materials and to be able to understand the techniques of retrieving and accessing library materials. Computerized Cataloguing This course is primarily concerned with the concepts for computer based cataloguing work. It is intended to expose the students with the Machine Readable Catalogue (MARC) format as an universally accepted standard for coding computer based catalogue records and to develop the understanding of the importance of accurate, consistent and reliable computerized bibliographic records.
